Brawl in the streets
Earlier this week, servants of the Capulet house instigated a public fight against Montagues in the streets. According to witnesses, a few of the fighters suffered minor injuries, despite the intensity of the fight. One participant, named Benvolio made an attempt to disperse the brawl. "I do but keep the peace. Put up thy sword, or manage it to part these men with me," he claims. Despite his efforts, he was unable to keep the peace. On another account, Tybalt, a cousin to Juliet, said Benvolio had encouraged the fight. In an interview with Tybalt, he said, "What, drawn, and talk of peace? I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues, and (Benvolio)."
Luckily for the citizens of Verona, the city watch dispersed the brawl. The wonderful Prince, with the help of the watch, calmed both the Capulets and Montagues and ended all conflict for that moment. "If you ever disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of peace," the Prince says, voicing his concern and displaying his ultimate authority. This fight just goes to show the huge conflict, whether or not it holds value, between the Montague house and Capulet house.
